Technology - Features

ERS's technology provides vast improvements and cost savings across a breadth of existing and future distributed computing systems. Providing both hard and soft real-time scheduling of application code with microsecond precision, ERS's solutions are able to optimize use of communication channels while minimizing energy consumption and communication overhead. Applications built on this technology take advantage of some of the following features:

  • Remote Configuration and Unattended Operation
  • Modularity, Portability and Reusability
  • Wired and Wireless Real-Time Communication
  • Dynamic Dicovery & Distributed Coordination
  • Analog and Digital Sensor Interface
  • Periodic or Event Triggered (Failure, Sensor Threshold) Reporting
  • Low Cost Deployment
  • Multi-Hop Extended Communication and Coverage
  • Hardware Interoperability and Heterogeneity
  • Long Life Operation with Advanced Power Management
  • Built In Redundancy

ERS's technology provides extremely diverse applicability across a wide range of verticals, allowing tradeoffs that include performance, quality-of-service, cost, and system lifetime in accordance with application requirements. This swappable component architecture utilizes reusable modules to provide hard or soft real-time guarantees using deterministic distributed behavior.

Existing components include, but are in no way limited to: real-time data delivery, location support, dynamic reconfiguration, programmability, multi-hop communication, data aggregation, and analog and digital sensor integration. The only work required for developing new applications is to plug in the required components and specify desirable traits such as reporting periods, sensory event thresholds, or system energy requirements. Aside from these basic components, the framework encourages additional opportunities to expand and augment this collection of supported features at a minimal cost.
